Our very own community!

The third week working in the creches just passed and slowly it’s starting to feel like a routine has been settled. During this last week I was extremely sick and wasn’t able to support the creches for the majority of the week. It was very tough being sick and away from home because I didn’t know exactly what to expect. However, like every other experience here, I have been able to learn a great deal about the amazing people who surround me. From the moment I started feeling sick various people started checking in on me and making sure I had what I needed. I felt a sense of guilt for not being able to support my partners in the creches but in response they were both very understanding and prioritized my well-being. Noticing how much love and care all the people in the house had made me realize that we have built a strong community and constantly look to support one another. I can say that I am truly blessed to be part of such an amazing group of people.

Additionally, I can see how challenging it might have seemed at first to be partaking in this journey with a group of 11 other people whom I had met within the last six months. However, I have learned so much about the wonderful work each and everyone of them does on a daily basis from the excellent work they do in the States to the support they are providing teachers within the creches. It is always interesting to take part of the reflecting meetings and hearing how everyone is experiencing similarities and differences within this opportunity. I’m hoping that for the next few weeks we continue to build upon this amazing sense of community we have built and continue to support one another when times get hard.
